Turning plate sales into new trails!

We've sold almost 500 plates since January 1!  That's very important news for two reasons - first, we're almost halfway to the minimum plate sale requirement to keep our plate active. Remember, we have to get 1000 plates in circulation by 1/1/14.  Not bad that we're almost halfway there in less than a year.  More importantly, we've raised $10,000 to be put back into the trails!  We had a conversation with Idaho Parks and Rec this week and we're formulating how and when we may be able to start turning plate sales into trail work.  Most likely, our funds will be used to supplement the Recreational Trails Program grant program. Non-profits (like bike clubs) and governmental organizations can submit for an RTP grant and, if it looks like a good candidate for a qualifying RTP grant, we could use the plate money to fund that particular grant.   Here's the application itself.  Applications are due by the last Friday in January 2012. So, if your club or governmental organization is interested in submitting a grant for a trail project, you better get cracking on that application!
